After securing Matt Phillips earlier in the summer transfer window, West Bromwich Albion has continued to strengthen its squad methodically. But while new signings arrive, some existing players have started attracting attention from rival clubs—particularly winger Callum McManaman.
Interestingly, Arsenal recently made a bid for West Brom’s starting center-back Jonny Evans, only to be firmly rejected by manager Tony Pulis. Meanwhile, two newly promoted Premier League clubs—Hull City and Burnley—have set their sights on McManaman, who currently plays a backup role at the club.
Callum McManaman, a distant relative of former Liverpool and Real Madrid star Steve McManaman, is known for his pace and explosive style down the flanks. He began his professional career with Wigan Athletic and was once a member of England’s U20 national team. In January 2015, McManaman transferred from Wigan to West Bromwich Albion for £4.75 million, becoming Pulis’ very first signing upon taking charge. Donning the number 19 shirt, expectations were high—but consistent impact has proven elusive.
Despite his raw talent and attacking flair, McManaman struggled to earn regular minutes under Pulis. In the previous Premier League season, he made just 12 appearances, only two of which were starts. He registered one assist and failed to score, leaving fans and analysts underwhelmed. With Matt Phillips now a firm part of the squad and young prospect Jonathan Leko rising through the ranks, McManaman’s future at The Hawthorns looks uncertain.
At just 25 years old, a transfer could breathe new life into his career. According to British media sources, both Hull City and Burnley are eager to add him to their roster to bolster their attacking depth for the season ahead.
In addition to the Premier League interest, Championship side Sheffield Wednesday has also thrown its hat into the ring. West Brom is reportedly seeking around £4 million for a permanent deal, but the club is open to a loan arrangement, giving McManaman a chance to prove himself before re-evaluating next summer.
